We have outlined many of the recent challenges over the last few years regarding the new FAFSA system, which has caused headaches for students and parents across the country. If you are struggling with FAFSA, please get in touch with us to speak with a certified college planning expert. Today on the blog we're covering a recent development that affects WNY students who may be considering attending a SUNY school here in NYS. Let's see what SUNY is trying to do to boost FAFSA and get aid out to students ASAP.
This week SUNY Chancellor John King announced $500,000 from a higher education foundation known as ECMC to help boost the application process.
This comes as it is reported that delays with this year's application have driven the New York FAFSA submission rate down by around 12% compared to last year. Without FAFSA, federal and state financial aid can't be awarded. This is why every student needs to complete the FAFSA, and that has become challenging this year with so many changes.
The $500,000 grant hopes to expand outreach to students state-wide to help them be aware of new FAFSA changes, and ideally, help more students complete the FAFSA as only 6 weeks remain to do so for this academic year. If you need help with FAFSA or have questions regarding financial aid, please don't hesitate to reach out and give us a call. We are seasoned in FAFSA processing and have been hard at work all season working with WNY families to navigate the murky FAFSA waters as we enter into the new academic year.
